Daycare Nightmares

Ok, I am livid!! All of Jedi's therapist and his doctor have been telling me he really needs to be in daycare at lest 2 days a week so he can socialize with other children. I may have to get a job outside the home again so now seems the perfect time. Well, we were trying to be frugal so we looked at several daycares and on a whim we also looked at La Petite, which is very expensive and is more like a pre-school. Our appointment was at La Petite first. Now I have worked daycare before, and I have in the past said that I did not understand why someone would pay that kind of money for childcare. I have now eaten my words. First off the director gave us the tour and we got to meet the teachers and the children in the classroom. We spoke to the teacher and the director about Jedi's therapies and that he need to be monitored when he eats due to his choking issues. NO PROBLEM. They have another little one in the class who has special needs and the teachers work with her very well. Now at the other daycares we toured I was shocked. I called in advance to tell them we were coming that day, the director acted surprised that my husband came along and was kinda surprised we were there. Everything was in chaos.. the children were zoned out in front of a video.. when we walked in there was no teacher even in the classroom of about 15 2 year olds. We could have taken a child by the hand and walked out, or so it would seem anyway. After about 5 minutes a teacher appeared out of the bathroom and was shocked to see us. She went and got the director. We did our tour and aked about curriculum. It was not very good but I teach Jedi stuff at home so no big deal and it was $10 a day cheaper than La Petite. Anyway, I was telling the director that Jedi has to be monitored when he eats because he chokes easily and that he has a speech and Occupational therapy. She began to go on how she should be able to still have Jedi in the daycare but she would have to get special permission since he needs help with things. WHAT?!?!?!?! He needs to be watched while he eats so he doesn't choke and sometimes you have to help him focus on chewing. There are alot of 2 year olds who need help. I know Jedi is delayed, but he is smart. When she found out he has trouble communicating... and that he signs she was like, well we will come up with something because her teacher do not have time to notice if he is signing and she has 10 other children to watch so the teacher cannot watch for choking during lunch and snack....now Jedi can talk .. trust me... but he signs when he can't process what he is trying to say.... like he will sign "please" if he needs something and if you say "show me" he will lead you right to it. NOw mind you he has good days and bad.. that is is his bad day.... needless to say we LEFT.. and Jedi is enrolling at La Petite.. his granny is helping us with the cost.. but they have an actual curriculum I can go online each day and see what he is learning that day. the teacher ratio was lower..10 kids 2 teachers for the 2 year old class. Anyway for $ 10 more a day,, Jedi will be learning something.. not zoning out in front of the TV all day... which by the way in the other daycare I noticed there were over 2 hours of tv time on the schedule... plus videos were available during free play.....
If my Baby needs daycare.. he will have the best !!!!!!!!!!!

And then I spent the rest of the day bawling because My Jedi is going to be going to daycare.....

Oh, Kay! I'm glad you found a good day care, but sad that he is going to be there. Is this every day or just a couple of days a week? I am shifting to a full time babysitter while I am at home and am worried about that - I feel for you!
